Our Senior Pastor:  John Fender


Rev. John Fender has served in Pooler for over seven years. He was born in Jesup, GA, spent most of his life in Glynn County, graduated from Mercer University with a business degree, then managed his father’s grocery business on Jekyll Island for four years. He attended Covenant Theological Seminary and then the Lord called him to serve as a pastor in Marion, AL for three years. In 2005, he moved to Pooler to help start the First Presbyterian Church of Pooler.

John and his wife Leslie have been married for 18 years.  They have two daughers, Caroline and Catherine.

John currently serves as the Chaplain of the Pooler Police Department.

Our Director of Discipleship Ministries: Michael Brown

Michael Brown has joined the staff of First Presbyterian Church of Pooler as the Director of Discipleship Ministries where he will have a broad range of responsibilities that include teaching, training and overseeing various Bible studies and small groups.   He was born and raised in Mississippi, graduated from Mississippi College and received a law degree from the University of North Carolina.   Since that time Michael has been an attorney, served in the Army with four years of his service at Fort Stewart, Georgia, and an elder at Madison Heights Presbyterian Church.    The Lord has called Michael to full time ministry, and he is currently enrolled in Reformed Theological Seminary.

Our Youth Pastor: Winston Shurtz


Winston has been working with youth in various contexts over the last eleven years, but he has mainly been involved in youth discipleship ministry.  It was in large part through these opportunities in the local Church that he felt a call to serve the Lord and His bride, the Church.  Winston was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, and as a youngster, had a burning desire to go to the Georgia Institute of Technology.  Aside from teaching a year of high school mathematics, Winston has been working as a consultant in the cost segregation business over the past ten years.  He completed his Master of Divinity degree from Reformed Theological Seminary in Atlanta.

Winston and Olivia have been happily married for three years.  He is still amazed that God would bless him with such a wonderful woman.

Our Administrative Assistant: Temple Fennell

Temple Fennell moved to Pooler from Brunswick with her husband, Brad, and 2 children, Conner and Bellamy. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech and is from Salem, Virginia. She has a Bachelor of Science in Textiles and Clothing. As a child she was a competitive figure skater and has worked in the shoe, fitness, and weight loss industry.

Carrie Brookshire lives in Richmond Hill with her husband Brad and son Jack. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia and works as a freelance licensed professional Interior Designer.  Carrie and Brad have been members of First Presbyterian Church since 2006.

Matt King, current graduate student at Savannah College of Art and Design, will now assist us with music and youth ministry.  He filled a similar role for over four years at Houston Lake PCA church in Warner Robbins, GA.  He is pictured here with his wife, Mandy.

Pastor of Korean Ministries: Rev. Cheol Kim

Rev. Kim is responsible to oversee our efforts of starting a church that ministers to first and second generation Korean Americans.  He is pictured here with his wife, Young Bok Han.
